Safety has become a more obvious issue for workers in the hospitality industry. In Australia particularly, the industry is highly regulated. The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) administers the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification and training courses in Queensland. The certificates have been developed in accordance with departmental standards; requirements and certifications vary between states and territories throughout Australia. Some states approve online courses, while others require classroom sessions in order to obtain the certification. Queensland recognises that technology is important for locals as well as foreign travelers and it is one of the states that recognises online course accreditation. RSA Online QLD courses allow applicants to take their training online and determine the number of hours they require to complete it.

The convenience of deciding when to participate in course work and studying is compounded for foreign travelers who are working from different time zones and sometimes from different languages. The RSA certificate is valid for three years from the date of accreditation and can then be re-taken online.

Some establishments, in addition to requiring that staff members possess the RSA certificate, have also taken precautions such as removing glass bottles from the premises in order to protect the patrons. Metal detectors are seen more prevalently at club entrances in order to prevent weapons from being smuggled inside to settle disputes.  Training staff to manage difficult and intoxicated customers or to prevent problems is one of the primary goals of the program.

RSA Online QLD training offers the convenience of 24/7 enrollment and participation, as well as online e-mail support, which can mean a lot when life is hectic and busy. Queensland allows thirty days for a staff member to obtain their RSA certificate from the start of work. Hands-on experience combined with online training is a meaningful way to acquire the skills required to be successful in the industry. RSA Online QLD training is not recognised in some states and territories, but there are bridging programs in place that can assist with moving and transferring existing certificates to different states. Contrary to certain public opinions that might interpret Australia's certificate requirements as picky and money-making schemes, the physical and legal safety of customers and staff members is the priority for government and business owners in the country.
